The plot for this story is inspired by the Jorogumo, a creature from Japanese folklore. They are spider monsters with the ability to shapeshift into beautiful women. Usually with their disguises they lure men into a vulnerable state then take their lives.
We wanted to shift the story and have The Jayder take on the role of a male Jorogumo. In this tale, he leads his Japanese muse into a vulnerable state through real temptations often found in night clubs; alcohol and intimacy. Similar to the film "Vampire in Brooklyn", The Jayder opts to turn his muse into a fellow Jorogumo instead of ending her life. On another level, Saikin Hikoshita is an indirect commentary on the increasingly popular use of AI to create images.
While we recognize AI as another "paintbrush" we wanted to include unposed images of the artist in action as well as candid moment of our model who is a dancer. We place value in the human heart resonating with reality and chose to use that raw feeling to connect with our audience. Even with advancing technology, we believe that image makers ability to create real emotion and capture candid moments can never be truly duplicated.
